The Clay Studio Breaks Ground on New Facility

PIDC client, The Clay Studio broke ground this month on its new South Kensington ceramic facility, which is slated to open in spring 2021.

The groundbreaking is a culmination of a $13.7 million capital campaign, which was supported by an allocation of New Markets Tax Credits from PIDC. In this project, PIDC joins lending partners Local Initiatives Support Corporation (Philadelphia), Reinvestment Fund, and Wells Fargo. The new facility at 1425 N. American St. is a milestone for the nearly 50-year-old Clay Studio that will be able to better serve Philadelphia’s thriving artists and arts community, with state-of-the-art studios, new gallery spaces, larger classrooms, and more!

The facility will also deepen relationships between The Clay Studio and the South Kensington community — a relationship that began 25 years ago when the organization rooted its community engagement program, The Claymobile, in the neighborhood. They’ve grown from a collective of five artists to a thriving collaborative fellowship of artists, teachers & professional staff serving 35,000 people a year.
