When it came to expanding territory to accommodate the increasing tourists in the city, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants called on PIDC. Our Welcome Fund provided capital for two hotels – the Kimpton Hotel Palomar in Center City and the Kimpton Hotel Monaco in Old City. Extensive renovations of the historic buildings made room for posh interiors that stand out among its competitors.

An ultimate marriage between sleek and stylish, the 230-room Kimpton Hotel Palomar at 17th & Sansom offers a luxurious, yet eco-friendly, boutique hotel experience. The historic art deco building, which was once home to the original Architects Building designed by Paul Philippe Cret, features original details, such as original crown molding and paneling, tile mosaic, and etched elevator doors. Guestrooms have superb amenities and fabulous Philly skyline views.

The 268-room Kimpton Hotel Monaco at 5th & Chestnut brings its own flavor of the posh life to Old City. An adaptive reuse project of a storied building located on the country’s most historic mile, the hotel is inspired by the eccentric, discerning traveler who has collected and arranged items from around the globe to evoke the inner explorer. Throughout the hotel, design pieces of the old meets new are uniquely positioned with a juxtaposition of classic, historic architecture and modern, contemporary finishes. In addition, the hotel boasts 13,000-square-feet of meeting space, a stunning ballroom, a rocking rooftop lounge, and a lauded neighborhood restaurant.

PIDC assisted with funding the complete renovations of both posh, historic hotels through the Welcome Fund.
