PENNOVATION CENTER WINS PHOENIX AWARD

By far the most exciting brownfield redevelopment in the Lower Schuylkill is the $37.5M “Pennovation Center” constructed by the University of Pennsylvania (Penn) in 2016. The project converted a brownfield industrial building and aged infrastructure into a stunning, LEED™ Goldcertified incubator and workspace, with 52,000SF of cutting-edge labs, robotics, inventor garages, and pitch spaces. GERMANTOWN AVENUE WINS CONTEST AND $150,000

Philadelphia residents showed support for a beloved main street, Germantown Avenue helping it to win a contest for the most popular main street in the nation. Germantown United Community Development Corporation was awarded the grant in the Partners in Preservation: Main Streets Campaign — it came in first in an online poll to determine the 11 winners of the contest by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, National Geographic and American Express to underscore the importance of historic places and their role in sustaining local communities. Vault + Vine, formerly Falls Flowers is an eight year old florist and floral design shop, owned and operated by Peicha Chang. The business was formed in 2009 in East Falls where it has steadily grown. This success gave Mrs. Chang the opportunity to move into a  new expanded retail location at 3507 Midvale Avenue where PIDC provided a Working Capital and Equipment Loan to complete fit out and equipment purchase.
